FLAT FOOT

FLAT FOOT

Flatfoot is  a deformity of the foot with decrease of its longitudinal arch, and the sole of the foot becomes in contact with the ground.

There are 2 types of flatfoot:

  1. Flexible type: the deformity is present while sitting and disappears with walking or tip- toeing.
  2. Rigid type: the deformity is present while sitting and walking or tip-toeing.

FLAT FOOT

The deformity usually runs in families due to hyperlaxity and weakness of leg and foot muscles, and occasionally due to congenital foot deformity.

Surgical treatment plan depends upon the patient’s age, clinical examination and plain x-rays.

There are two main surgical options:

  1. Fixing a screw in the heel bone (Arthrorheisis).
  2. Lengthening of the heel bone with a bone graft.
